On September 30th, 2020, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Hon Steven Guilbeault hosted a Sport Community Town Hall to discuss how the federal government will assist in the sport community’s recovery from the impact of COVID-19. Ahead of the Town Hall, members of the community were invited to submit proposals on how Canada may address the following 3 priorities:
- Increase the number of individuals from under-represented and equity-seeking groups who can earn a living from participation in sport
- Increase the number of people who live in Canada who practice a sport on a regular basis
- Reduce the environmental footprint of the art, culture, heritage, and sport sectors
Outdoor Play Canada submitted a proposal recommending attention be placed on improving neighborhood built environment features to support access to the outdoors and outdoor play, and providing outdoor learning and play opportunities in childhood education settings.
